Magnetic Level Gauge: Principle, Advantages and Applications

2026-10-07
A magnetic level gauge (MLG) is a widely adopted industrial measuring instrument designed for continuous liquid level monitoring. It operates based on the principle of communicating vessels and magnetic coupling, delivering stable and intuitive level detection without relying on external power supplies.

The core structure of a magnetic level gauge includes a non-magnetic bypass chamber, a magnetic float and an external indicator panel. Connected to industrial tanks or vessels, the bypass chamber keeps the liquid level consistent with the internal level of the equipment. The magnetic float inside the chamber rises and falls freely with liquid fluctuations. Driven by magnetic field coupling, the bi-colored magnetic flaps on the external panel flip synchronously, displaying real-time liquid levels with clear color contrast between red and white.
Compared with traditional glass tube level gauges, magnetic level gauges have prominent superiorities. They feature excellent tightness, high pressure and temperature resistance, and avoid liquid leakage and tube breakage risks. With no direct contact between the display part and corrosive, toxic or high-purity media, they adapt to harsh industrial environments. Meanwhile, the maintenance-free mechanical structure greatly reduces operational costs.

Thanks to high accuracy, strong stability and safe operation, magnetic level gauges are extensively applied in petroleum, chemical, electric power, pharmaceutical and water treatment industries. They can measure various liquid media and support secondary signal transmission, realizing on-site display and remote monitoring simultaneously. As a reliable level measuring solution, it has become essential for modern industrial fluid management.
